Legal Question in Traffic Law in North Carolina

first ticket prayer for judement, 16 mph over

I recieve a ticket for going 71 in a 55 zone.

I have never had a speeding ticket before and I am worried because I am a student and cannot afford a lawyer.

I have been told that the DA can reduce the ticket speed.

Is it wise to ask for a prayer for judgement?

A. at all?

B. If my ticket is reduced to a non moving violation?

C. If it is not reduced?

What are the consequenses for 16 mph over and what is considered a non moving violation?

thank you

Re: first ticket prayer for judement, 16 mph over

In some counties, you can get a non-moving violation (usually improper equipment). That is the best bet.

If you can't, you can either reduce it to 9 over or get a PJC. Neither of them have insurance consequences if it is your first reduction or your household's first PJC (anyone on the policy) in three years. A reduction would have some drivers license points.

If someone has a clean record, I would get the reduction and save the PJC since it can be used for other violations.
