A judge requires me to surrender items to the estate that I don't have and never had. What can I do to avoid contempt of court?

Contempt of court is a willful intentional refusal to obey a court order of which you are aware. If you have never had the items in your possession then you obviously cannot surrender them. Which begs the question of why the order was entered in the first place. Was the order entered without your knowledge? I would have to see the court order but you cannot produce what you do not have. You need to advise the personal representative or the attorney for the estate of this and there will not be any contempt order. I would suggest though that you get your own attorney to intercede for you.
