Legal Question in Workers Comp in North Carolina

cont. when is it to late to get your money from your attorney after settlement

I won a settlement from my attorney. 15+years ago Iwon a workmencomp case paper work was sign and check and my attorney told me that he had to put the check in his account because it was a large amount of money that it would have to stay in the bank a while before he can write me a check his bank account and that he had to pay all my medical bills and recieve the paper work from the labor board so that they can sign the paper work stating that we had settled. and he would get in touch with me . everytime I went up to collect my money he continue to brush me off. 1m turn into 2m into years every time i would go to his office he would tell me that he was still waiting that he had not recieve any paper from the labor department. I do not know how much I won I turn the check over to see and he got highly upset. and knocked my hand down quick so that I could not see the amount . He wrote me a check for a 100.00 and told me to go buy me something nice I asked him for a copy of the paper work that I sign and he told me that I could not get a copy of my paper work until he recieved the paperwork from labor board. I have not recieved the paper work nor my money.

Fifteen years is a long time to wait to do something about the case. I suggest that you contact the NC State Bar (website www.ncbar.com) to see if they can help you. Also, check and see if that attorney is still alive and practicing. Based on what you have written, his behavior was unethical and improper.
