Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Ohio

I was terminated from employment 7 months ago and my former employer refuses to pay off my credit card balance.

When I was hired, I was issued a Corporate American Express credit card to take care of my business expenses such as hotel, rental car, meals, etc. The card was issued in my name rather than the company's name. I continue to receive phone calls from Am. Exp. asking me when it will be paid off. My former employer refuses to pay it off and will not answer my phone calls and/or e-mails with an answer. I am stuck in the middle between Am. Exp. who wants payment and my former employer who will not pay and will not respond to my inquiries. Ultimately, I am the one who will suffer bacause it will affect my credit score.

I have asked Am. Exp. to please stop calling me and work directly with my former company on resolution. They will only work with me because the card is in my name and will not stop calling me until I give them a letter from my attorney stating to stop calling me and attempt to work it out with my former company.

What can I do???

Thanks,

Jeff

If the card is in your name only and your employer is not contractually obligated for the debt, American Express will demand payment from you. You may have to bring suit against your employer to recover the sum yourself.
