Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

My divorce was final December 4th. I was awarded a settlement from my ex's retirement from the government. This is something that can be done by simply faxing to the DFAS. I have been calling and emailing my attorney's office to find out the date they faxed the paperwork to get a email reply today that states they want another payment before they are willing to do this. I have paid this attorney everything in full up to the final day in court. I told my attorney I would pay him in full with my settlement since I am not currently employed and my temporary alimony was not made permanent. I have no savings, and desperately need this to keep up my current meds and current bills. Can he just not do this and prevent this order from going through? Do i contact the court? HELP!

In Ohio, an attorney needs to represent you to the best of his/her ability while he/she is still your attorney. If money is an issue, then the attorney should withdraw from your case and allow you to get another attorney.

If your attorney withdraws and you can't afford another, you can call up your local legal aid society, or if there is a law school near your location, you can contact them to see if they have a legal clinic which might be interested in taking your case. Lastly, you could try calling up a local bar association and asking them for referrals to attorneys who practice in this area of law. There are a lot of attorneys out there, especially ones who have just graduated from law school and are looking for new clients, who might take on the case for payment after you get your money.
