Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

If I marry someone who pays child support in Ohio will I have to aid them in the payments? And if we move out of state and they do not work for a while will I have to aid them?

In Ohio, the obligation to pay child support is only upon the person who was a part of the previous divorce. A new spouse can never be ordered by Ohio Courts to pay a child support obligation for someone else.

However, while the obligation to pay stays with the spouse of the previous marriage, if you earn a lot of money, the Court can consider this in determining how much the spouse to the previous marriage must pay. If the spouse from the previous marriage does not earn enough to pay this increased amount, the effect is the same as your being ordered to pay since you will likely want to pay a little something to keep your present spouse out of jail on contempt of court charges if he or she were to fail to pay.
