Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Ohio

Flooding in Basement Apartment

The hot water tank flooded the apartment. The carpet is soaked through. Some of the padding has been thrown away. The caretaker of the building informed me that some of the padding will be replaced, but the carpeting will be dried (fans are running now) and repaired (cut at doorways to ''tent'') and put back down. My son has asthma and I'm terrified of mold intrusion. Shouldn't new carpeting be put down. I have been a good, clean tenant for about 10 years. Other apartments have been updated when vacant. Mine has not because I'm still living there .

Re: Flooding in Basement Apartment

I am sorry about your situation. I had something similar happen to me a few years ago but it was not as serious as your situation. The answer to your question depends on many things. I would need to see what your lease says, if it says anything about this. It might be that all you really need is an attorney to right a letter on your behalf to the landlord in order to get the situation fixed. Although it sounds simple, a letter from an attorney can work wonders. If you decide that you would like an attorney I would be more than happy to represent you.

If you would like a free consulation feel free to contact me at your convienence. I hope you have a wonderful day.
