Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Ohio

We found a house for rent on the internet and the owners are out of state so we have communicated via e mail. We have also found the same property listed with a reality company and shows sale pending how can we check to make sure we are legally leasing the house and not getting scammed

In Ohio, the best thing to do would be to get on the auditor's website for the county the home is in and look up who owns it. For instance, if you look up an address on Clarence Mingo's (Franklin County Auditor) website it will tell you who owns the house, when they brought it, how much they paid for it, you will see a picture of it if you click on the photo tab etc.

You might also want to call the Realty company and inform them that you are thinking about renting the house, and you want to make sure that everything is legit.

If it turns out that the people on the internet trying to rent it to you don't have any ownership of it, then I would call the local police and tell them all about it and see if they might be interested in trying to get these people prosecuted.

Very truly yours,
