Is the general public allowed to request an accident investigation report from the county police or sheriff's department? How soon after an accident is it usually available?

Re: accident investigation reports

Traditionally accident reports are considered public records and are available for the public to request. Some departments have reports available the next day while other departments take a few days before the report is available. A simple phone call to the department will let you know if the report is available or when it should be available for you to obtain a copy.
