Legal Question in Traffic Law in Ohio

I have an active warrant that I just found out about. It's for a unpaid speeding ticket in the summer of 2008 in Dublin, Ohio that I completely forgot about. I have moved out of state since and went to the dmv to get a new license and was told I couldn't get one until the warrant was taken care of. I since then have talked to the people that live at my old address, and they told me that they have mail in my name, and had no address to send it. I gave them my address and they sent me my mail. In it was a notice of warrant from the Dublin Police saying I need to show up in person and pay bond in the amount of $278.00 .It also says "Since you were charged with a minor misdemeanor you have the option to pay the fine and costs in the amount of $222.00 in lieu of posting bond and the case will be closed." It Now this was sent to me in September of 2008. It's 2010. Can I just send in payment of $222.00 and have everything cleared up, or do I have to show up to court? I just don't have the money to fly across the country. I would like to send in the money and clear this up, I just can't get back to clear it up. What can I do? Will the fines increase due to the length of time that I've had the warrant? Any help would be great. Thanks.

Go to the Dublin Muni Court website and look for information on paying traffic ticket waivers. If the information is not there call the Clerk of Courts and explain the situation, specifically asking if you can just waive and pay the ticket. Then send the payment by bank official check with explanation to the Clerk of Courts. Send it CERTIFIED, RETURNED RECEIPT so you have records to show they received it. Wait a few days and call the clerk again to make sure their database has been updated. (You may even ask for a letter from them that shows you paid the ticket.)

If this does not work you will need an attorney to appear for you and try to clear up the situation.

Call the clerk of courts for Dublin and speak with someone about it. My guess is that would resolve it.

If they tell you that you will have to appear, it would make sense to get an attorney here to handle it as your appearance shouldn't be necessary (sometimes the courts want a representative i.e. attorney there for the case).

If you need legal help with it, give me a call.
