Legal Question in Traffic Law in Ohio

I have just discovered a traffic ticket from Wayne Co N.C. from 1998 had not been taken care of, and now is preventing me from changing my name on my OH drivers license, and eventually renewing it. I have lived in OH since 1999, and have renewed my license several times, and only became aware of this issue this week. I have called the NC DMV and Wayne Co, and am told that I HAVE to appear in court there to take care of this matter period. Not only is that 12 hours away, but I can't afford the time off of work, nor do I have the funds to hire a lawyer! Any suggestions or legal advise would be appreciated from someone who knows what they are talking about, as I only know what they are telling me. HELP

Write a letter to the court and call it a motion to recall warrant and make a request to plead in abstentia to the ticket. You may need to make an affidavit and sign it in front of a notary. Hopefully the court will help you once you file your original motion. You really could use a Lawyer from that town but it is at least possible that you could do this yourself.
