Legal Question in Traffic Law in Ohio

paying fines

A few years ago, my license was suspended because of some technicalities in a car accident. I was told I had to pay the insurance company before they would lift my suspension. I've spent the past few years paying them off. This past month, that was completed. After calling the BMV to find how to get my license reinstated, they said there has been a warrant issued because of unpaid traffic fines (reinstatement fee, court costs, etc). When I asked how to pay those, they told me I have to make a court date with the judge. I need to know if I make this date and go to court, will I be arrested when I go to the courthouse because of the warrant? I want to pay off the fines and get my license back, but I don't want to end up in jail by doing it the wrong way. If I pay the fees directly to the BMV, will the warrant go away? If not, how do I correct this problem?

You really should get a lawyer to run interference for you. I notice that you have a Canton zip code. I'm in Canton. Email me at [email protected] if you want to discuss.

Re: paying fines

Most courts will aloow you to come in, pay a nominal fee and then have a court date scheduled for the next day/week etc. Call the clerk of courts for where the warrant is from and ask them the procedures. If it just matter of non payment of court costs/fines, it should relatively hassle free. Also find out how much you owew. Youshould be ready to go in with enough money to pay off all of it, or at least half.

Call me if you have any questions: Tim

Set the court date...or use an attorney to do that.
