Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Ohio

My mother in law died in new Mexico, USA. She has a trust fund from her father in Oklahoma, and he has passed also. He had a will, but she didn't. What state should my other half be talking to in order for her to get her inheritance. Now the trustee says that my other half has to share the money with her second cousins. From what I understand, since her mother didn't have a will, and if the estate of her grandfathers is closed, that my other half would get everything.

Her estate would be probated, with or without a will, in New Mexico. It is very possible, depending upon the assets that are in the trust for her, that her inheritance from Oklahoma would become part of her probate estate.
