Legal Question in Immigration Law in Oregon

my boyfrien was born in canada his mother was/is a natural u.s. citizen, they moved here when he was 2 & she never filed any paperwork for him. when he was 6 hewas adopted by step-dad who is/was a natural u.s. citizen. he has lived here his whole life, he is now 35 and has just found out he is illegal, what needs to be done for him to be legal?

It is possible that your boyfriend obtained citizenship at birth via his USC mother depending upon where she lived prior to his being born. If that is not the case, she will need to petition for him which will take many years. If he marries a U.S. citizen, he will become eligible more quickly. I would contact an experienced immigration attorney regarding this situation so that you can fully explore all of your option.
