Legal Question in Employment Law in Oregon

withheld money

In my final paycheck after resigning my position, my employer withheld money he claims I owe him for working on my personal computer after work hours. I worked in a print shop, not in a computer related field. He stated it as 230.00 debt owed for ''out of pocket material cost.'' Can that possibly be legal?

Re: withheld money

In Oreogn, an unauthorized deduction from wages is illegal and subjects the employer to a penalty and attorneys fees. Also, having illegally withheld payment, the employer has failed to pay all wages when due, another violation that will subject the employer to penalty wages and attorneys fees. Consult an attorney for assistance.
