Power of Attorney for Family Member who had a Stroke

I moved 1100 miles, three months ago, to help my grandmother, at her request. My Mom and Aunt rarely speak with her and never come over or offer to help. Last week, my grandmother had a stroke. She isn't paralyzed, she just can't speak or write and is easily confused. I need to pay her bills from her account, deposit her Social Secuirty checks, and everything like that. How do I do that when she can't even fully understand the need? My aunt is trying to step in an get control of my grandmother's house and household, where I am living with my grandmother. Help!

From your posting, it appears that your grandmother

no longer has capacity to do a power of attorney.

Without capacity, it will probably be necessary

for someone (you, your aunt or someone else) to

obtain a conservatorship. This must be done by a

court, usually in the county where she lives.

If there are multiple individuals competing to

handle your grandmother's funds, you should act

quickly.
