Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Pennsylvania

civil suit

Hi; last year 2001 I took a loan and paid my charge cards with a letter stating paid in full. Never heard anything until recently. A receivable company purchased all rights from this charge card company. I wrote a letter stating the amount i had paid and the charge card company agreed to settle. The Receivable company has now filed a civil suit for the balance owed. What are my rights? can I lose my house over this? what will happen if I can't pay?

Thank you.

Re: civil suit

Respond to the complaint against you. In your answer you can plead a special defense of payment, and attach the receipt as evidence...or simply contact the attorney listed on the complaint and explain your position. He will ask for a copy of the receipt and probably dismiss the complaint after reviewing your documentation.
