Legal Question in Criminal Law in Pennsylvania

My friend has a buddy who told him that a apartment was abondon and convinced him no one lived there and to go with him to see if they could find anything inside worth selling. So they did and my friend took a microwave and a guitar. Afterwards my friend found out someone did live in the apartment and he returned the items back to the guy. He explained to him that he thought the place was abondon and that he was sorry and even gave the guy some cash but the guy is still pressing charges. What kind of situation has my friend gotten himself into?

Good Morning,

Generally, he should not speak to anyone about anything that happened. He should have no contact with the person who lived there. He should not make any statements to anyone without speaking to an Attorney.

He will most likely receive documents from the court. One copy will come certified mail, one will come regular mail. He may receive a call from police officers asking him to come to the station to make a statement. Again, he should not do anything until he speaks with an Attorney.

We do handle cases such as these. If you are in or around the Pittsburgh or Allegheny, Butler, Beaver, Washington, Westmoreland areas you should contact our office and schedule a consultation. When you call, if you provide me his name we can see if anything has been filed at this point. Even though he may not have received anything yet, these things will show up in the docket before he actually receives anything.

Again, he should not wait on this. Please call our office as soon as possible if you are in the area. If you are located outside of the areas I listed, you should have him contact an Attorney within the County that the alleged incident occurred.

Feel free to Call or E-Mail me with additional questions.
