Re: getting divorce

You asked about possession of a vehicle in divorce.

Any person on the title of a vehicle may possess that vehicle. If the registration identifies two parties then the police cannot generally prohibit either person from operating it. If the operator does not have a license though, the operation of the vehicle is illegal by that person.

If a person is on the title then that person should also be the only person on the registration. If that is not the case then that is easily fixed by applying for a corrected regitration. Only the titled owner's signature would be necessary to change the registration.

Then the titled owner should seize the vehicle, keep it in a locked garage and have it re-keyed.

Regards,

Roger
