Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

husband filing for divorce

The house was purchased about 7 yrs ago. My name was not included becasue of a bankruptcy. About a year after purchasing the house i got the inheritance, paid off the house in full. He refused to add my name to the deed after it was paid for, he said he changed his mind. I have all papers showing house was paid for with inheritance, or i think they are the papers i would need. We have been married for 13 yrs.

You need to contact an attorney at once to discuss this and other issues related to a divorce. If the home was aquired during the marriage it is most likely marital property subject to equitable distribution. You should be sure you have all paperwork including the fact of paying off the mortgage. If you are in the philadelphia general area or suburbs you may contact my office to schedule a consultation.

Property purchased during the marriage is generally regarded as marital property, regardless of how it is titled. Pennsylvania is an equitable distribution state, not EQUAL. The courts will look at the status of the parties, to determine a fair distribution. You should consult with an attorney immediately to learn your rights. My office is in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and I represent clients in the entire Central Pennsylvania region. 7988-LAW
