Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

My mother just died suddenly.

She has some assests.

She didn't have a will.

My brother wants to have power of attorney to pay her bills.

How can I be assured I receive half of my mother's estate?

Does a lawyer document all assests or do I just take my brothers word for it?

Thanks!

He can't get a POA because your mother is dead. An estate will need to be opened.
