Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Pennsylvania

Slander in the workplace

I worked in a store for two years and was then transfered to a different a different branch by my District Manager. I just recently found out that my district manager and store manager thought I was stealing and that may be why i was transferred. I also found out that my old manager has told employees that I WAS stealing and the employees are telling other employees. Now my former co-workers think this is why I no longer work at their location. To the best of my knowledge I was never being investigated. Is it ok for management to make these accusations and have all the employees telling on another this. I live in a small town and my brother is a local police officer. If these accusations got to the public that would ruin our family name. Not to mention the stress it causes me every time I think about it or another employee says ( do you know people are saying you were stealing when you were in this store).

Re: Slander in the workplace

It is not appropriate for an employer to publicly state that you committed a criminal act if it is not true and to change your employment status. Depending on the facts and means of proof, this may be actionable. If you wish to pursue this, you should contact an attorney. There is a one year statute of limitations in Pennsylvania for slander. I offer free consultation.
