Legal Question

My friend dad pleads guilty to a crime 25 years ago. But he has been a good and moral person throughout his stay in the United States. He received a letter a month ago to appear at a hearing but we never received that letter because we have moved. Can he still be deported? If so what can we do to protect his rights to stay in the United States?
