Legal Question in International Law in Pennsylvania

US citizen living in Iran wants to work for US company

I am a Phd US citizen living in Iran. Can I teach online for a company based in the US? Some schools say the State Dept won't allow them to do business in Iran. Am I, a freelance teacher, US citizen, restricted from working for a US company because I live in Iran?
