Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Pennsylvania

I live in PA, our Lease states, "Tenants shall pay rent ($700) by check, in advance or by the 1st of the month."

My question is, the landlady came by today (4 days before the 1st asking for rent) saying she is going to be collecting rent the last Friday of every month. Can we still technically pay her the 1st regardless as it states "advance or the 1st of the month". There's no clause stating she can change the payment schedule at will. And a late fee isn't even assed until after the 10th.

Also, the contract is simple typed on Microsoft word and signed by the landlord and lessees. Does there not to be a lawyer or notary or some sort of legal representation to make the document actually contractual? Any advice is very much appreciated.

The lease says it's due the first than it's due the first.
