Legal Question in Elder Law in Tennessee

My mother may have to go into a nursing home. Currently, she has a 24-7 caregiver, who has moved into her house as her primary residence. Under these circumstances, would a nursing home facility try to put a lien on the house? My mother receives $2,000 a month from a pension/SS.

Thank you.

Nursing home costs for Medicaid (Tenncare) run about $4,000.00

per month for skilled care. That is $48,000.00 per year. Your mother

has $2,000.00 per month in pension/SS. That is $24,000.00 per

year. So Tenncare would pay about $24,000.00 per year in

nursing home costs. Following your mother's death, Tennncare

has the right to seek reimbursement for its costs and may

place a lien (or claim) on the house for those costs.
