Legal Question in Family Law in Tennessee

Tennessee child support fee?

Hi

I heard that in January of 2006 Tennessee changed the law or cost on child support. I was wondering what that is and if it is true? We have 2 children (10/9) and my ex is in the military and makes good money.

Any advice you can give would be great!

Thanks

Re: Tennessee child support fee?

The TN Child Support Guidelines were amended last year (in Jan 2005). The changes were that now BOTH parent's incomes are used to determine the ARP's (or non-custodial parent's) support obligation. Also factored into the new computer spreadsheet program that TN has developed to calaculate support is the number of days per year each child spends with each parent, other children in the parent's home, other prior support obligations, daycare costs, medical costs, etc. It sounds good but in realty it has been my experience that the numbers really do not change a whole lot. But if you think he should pay more by all means go to your local county child support office and apply for their services and see if you can get an increase in support. The county office child support services are free to all parents who seek to enforce or modify their child support obligation.
