Legal Question in Business Law in Texas

Changing Rates

I am an employee an at local hotel. We have been going through a transition from being sponsored by Best Western to being independently owned. Normally during special events (foot ball games, graduate, parents weekend) we have higher rates with a three week cancellation policy, however, because of the transition we did not know what our rates were going to be and gave all of our reservations for parents weekend the regular price of $79.00 + tax. The owner of the hotel has now changed all the reservations to $149.00 and told us we are not to call the people to inform them of the change. In addition since the reservations have a three week cancellation policy and are coming the 13th and 14th of April the owner is not letting anyone cancel their reservation and is going to charge the guests the new rate of $149.00 if they stay or not. Can we legally do this and if not can I refuse to work during those days.

Re: Changing Rates

You can refuse to work any day - at any time. Of course, it's quite likely you'll be fired. Sounds like it would be a good idea to find a new job anyway.

The new owner is looking to buy himself a few nasty lawsuits, and a ton of bad publicity.
