Legal Question in Technology Law in Texas

Bypassing a firewall.

What is the legality of bypassing a school firewall? The firewall I'm contemplating to hack is on a small enough server and is easy enough to pass, but I want to know what legal issues would come up if I were to do this.

It's a federal crime. The FBI will come to your house and arrest you. Don't do it.

Invasion of privacy is one. Tampering with government property is another. There are probably a few others that just aren't coming to mind at the moment. However, there's another law, I think its federal, which says if you commit an unlawful act with a computer, then the penalty for the unlawful act can be tripled. That's right, tripled. And, its tripled for EACH law you may be breaking. Long story short - don't do it! A school is the kind of place, as well, where they are likely expecting attempted hacks into their system. So, they'll be ready for you. Hope this helps change your mind about attempting it.
