Legal Question in Consumer Law in Texas

Bought a car and can't get the title

I decided to purchase a used car and was told I would receive the title in the mail in approximately 3-4 weeks. A few weeks had gone by since the purchase of the car and still no sign of the title. I then contacted the dealer multiple times and he offered several excuses and assured me I would receive the title very soon. I pursued the issue further by contacting both the Texas Attorney General and the Texas Department of Transportation, but both proved to be no help. I contacted a lawyer and he began to file a claim against the dealer, but a few weeks latter I received the news that the dealer had filed for bankruptcy. The car spent long periods of time sitting in my garage for almost 2 years with little road time. During that time multiple lawyers tried to contact ford, but failed to receive any responses. I never knew what would happen if I ever got pulled over, I just didnt want to get arrested. Today I got pulled over and received a citation, so thats where I stand right now; a court date, no title, an expired license and registration. I have run out of ideas on how to solve this problem and I am looking for any help I can get. At this point I would be satisfied with either getting my money back or receiving the title.

Re: Bought a car and can't get the title

Do you know who owned the title before the car went to the dealer? You might find out that the dealer never had title to the car. In which case they may be willing to simply sign the title over to you, unless you were sold a stolen car.

Is the dealer still in bankruptcy? You might get a bankruptcy attorney to help you with your claim for the title.
