Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

paid debt that was sold to collection agency

I paid a bill with a money order that was cashed by the correct credit card institution but wasnt posted to my account. It went into a seach and I was told not to worry. I faxed the copy of the money order and proved payment. Then many months passed-I called them, they put me on hold for sometimes even an hour!!Then I sent them the micro-fishe from the postal service which I had to buy to prove my self and then it without my knowledge went to a collections agency. I have asked them for proof of this debt and no reponse and the finace charges are growing based on a a false bill!! Its been years and I am so stressed out. I tell my husband when and if this is ever over I will be a different person. I feel as though I have a monster over me all the time. My stress has now affected my sleeping, for something that I didnt do!Sincerely D.Alcock

Re: paid debt that was sold to collection agency

The question is a matter of federal law, rather than Texas law. Find a local attorney that's familiar with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. They'll be able to help you pursue your case.
