Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Am I responsible for spouse's medical bills?

My husband passed away of terminal cancer leaving medical bills not covered by insurance. I have been told I am not responsible for them...but am I?

I am close to retirement age and do not make much money. With my limited income, paying them would create a severe financial problem for me.

My question is: if I do not pay, will they appear on MY credit report?

The medical bills are a community debt. Unless the charges are waived, or someone else pays for them, you will be responsible.

If they've sent you a bill, see if you can arrange either a payment schedule or some reduced payment. Let them know what your financial circumstances are and they'll usually work with you.

The main thing is to not ignore any billing.
