Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

is the surviving spouse responsible

Is the surviving spouse responsible for credit cards and medical bills that were solely in the deceased's name. If so can the surviving spouse just pay for example $1 to each creditor each month until he passes. He can probably aford more but would not allow him to enjoy the rest of his years. Any suggestions?

Re: is the surviving spouse responsible

The decedent's estate is responsible for debts properly claimed. What the survivor may negotiate in a compromise and settlement is anyone's guess.
