Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

Texas: Debt Collection

Several years ago I co-signed a car loan for my son who defaulted. It was reposessed and the hit has taken place on my credit report. I have been receiving calls from a collections agency demanding payment in full. I sent a letter stating I could not pay. They continue to call. Question, if I were to marry, would my new spouse be responsible for any of my past debt? I do not want her liable for any of it and I don't want any leins placed on her holdings. I am currently paying off everything I owe, but have no extra to accomodate this payment.

Re: Texas: Debt Collection

That is your separate debt, and not your new spouse. That doesn't mean they won't bug her for payment.
