Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

In 2011 my step ston who was 15 at the time was convicted of 2 felonies and was supposed to be sent to prison but his father and I step in and convinced the judge to let him come live with us because we could provide a stable and constructed environment for him as we have for our 4 other children. We have wanted him to live with us for years but his mother wouldn't allow it and he wanted to stay with her so we allowed it. We were granted our request and he required to live with us for a year u der strict probation. During that year everything changed for him he had good grades went to school EVERYDAY of the week, didn't get in trouble at all from school or otherwise. His probation officer couldn't praise him enough. We at that court hearing the judge told his mother that SHE was responsible for paying ALL of his probation fees because he ad been in trouble so many times and she was neglecting her duties as a mother! Well yesterday (jan 7, 2013) we got a new court order saying that we now have to pay half which is nearly $3000. Is that legal are they able to change that without consulting us?? Or new court date?? What can we do about it??

This is really more like a civil question but parents are financially responsible for their children until they are 18. It is not really the judge's choice to make.
