some one current on felony probation was arrested for allegedly manufacturing control substance in a drug free zone; At what point would it be most beneficial to obtain paid attorney and the possibility of charges being reduced.

The drug free zone has a few different consequences if found true. It affects parole eligibility, it increases the minimum sentence by 5 years and forces the judge to stack sentences. This is particularly problematic here because there are 2 cases. Of course, a judge could stack the PV and new case but that's usually not the case. If it were my family member I would want to have my choice of counsel if my life were on the line. The drug free zone is frequently a bargaining chip. I often been able to get that dropped. However, it's impossible to predict whether any lawyer could get the charges dropped or reduced.
