Legal Question in DUI Law in Texas

I was arrested July 2013 for DWI. August 2013 I hired an attorney and gave him $3,500 up front. I have had a court date every month since then. He keeps rescheduling them to the next month. He is doing this by phone or whatever because he never showed for a single court date except this past January. I found out right before my February court date that he had passed away. Is there any way that I can file or request for even a portion of that money back? He officed by himself from what I understand. So now I am out $3500 with no attorney. I have no more money for a new one as I am currently unemployed. Please advise.

First, explain the problem to the Court coordinator, so that you can request additional time. Second, contact the State Bar of Texas fee committee, they should be able to guide you.
