Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Child custody

A friend of mine is having a baby she is 16 and the father is 17. What rights will the father have if he does not sign the birth certificate and she have to put his name on the certificate? Also, what kindof visitation will be permitted since they are so young?

Re: Child custody

These are all issues that are resolved in a proceeding known as a Suit Affecting Parent-Child Relationship. If the father does not sign an Acknowledgement of Paternity, once his fatherhood is determined by DNA testing, then the judge will issue orders regarding birth certificates, custody, child support and visitation. Your friend needs to consult with an attorney.
