Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Deceased left no will

My father-in-law recently died and left no will that we could locate. My husband is 1 of 3 kids. The only documents we found was a beneficiary form for this retirement in which he left to his mother. According to the probate lawyer we met with, his assets belong to his kids except for the retirement. He had a checking account but we need a Right of Survivorship form & death certificate in order to retrieve the funds. We located this form online, but need to know what to do with it. He also at one time mentioned to my husband and brother-in-law that he had a life insurance policy with them as beneficiaries. We have not been able to locate this policy. Is there anywhere we can turn to to search for this policy? We are afraid his family will obtain the necessary documents to withdraw the bank funds before his children can. If that should happen, what recourse do his kids have? We are at a loss in what to do and need some direction.
