Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

My husband and I have been separated for 15 months. He is an alcoholic and has been driving under the influence on several occasions. His truck is in both of our names. I am concerned I will get sued if he hurts someone. My mother passed away in January and I will inherit $250k. How can I protect my inheritance? What should I do? Help!

You are not liable if your husband causes an accident in a vehicle that happens to have your name on the title.

In order to protect your inheritance, you want to make sure that the inheritance money never goes into a joint account. You should open up a special bank account just for the inheritance money. Don't ever deposit any other money into that account, such as your paychecks.
