Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

I pay $1500 in child support for one child. State max and about $200 in monthly health insurance. I'm having a child and was wondering if I can modify child support because I will now have two children.

Yes, after the new baby is born, you can ask the court to modify your child support.

The court would look at your current pay and calculate what you should be paying based on your current income. With 2 children your percentage would reduce from 20% to 17.5%.

Talk to a family law attorney before proceeding since the child support guidelines is increasing (I believe) to $8,500/net in September, 2013. If your net income has gone up, then your child support could actually increase even though your percentage will decrease.

Congratulations on the birth of your second child.
