Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

I just received a Dr. bill for $850 for plastic surgury on my 16 year old daughters face. I pay child support on this child. She was involved in an accident and was awarded a $300,000 settlement for the accident. The accident was 4 years ago. My X wants me to pay this bill. I had no prior notice. I will pay this, but I'll need some time. Shouldn't the settlement cover this? It was put in a trust, she will get it when she is 18. she is 16.. we are in texas. I have always paid my child support and 1/2 the Dr. bills. I just don't have the money to pay this all at once!

Based on what you have written, there are many factors to review regarding your question. First, what is the $850.00 bill specifically for? Second, generally as part of child support orders; one parent pays for 50% of the uninsured medical and the other parent pays the other 50% - you indicated that you pay 1/2 the doctor bills so why are you now going to pay the full $850.00? Third, Assuming that the plasitc surgery was due to the accident, then the settlement should have covered medical expenses (past and future) - you may want to review the terms of the settlement. Also, you may want to consult with a local law firm to ensure that you are fully protecting your and your child's rights and interests.
