Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

What are my rights as their mother?

I am a mother of two (4yrs, and 8 mos.). The boys father is abusive to all of us. He is controlling, will not let me work or put the kids in daycare. He won't give us money or allow people to come to our house. I'm scared of him and so is my oldest. We don't dare try to leave, he's already warned us about that. I don't know how to get out. We have no money adn no friends. My family is many states away. I just want my boys to have a good life and I don't know how to get out of here. Where do I go? or Who do I call? Please help us.

Re: What are my rights as their mother?

First, if family violence has occured, contact your local District Attorney to see if they can file a protective order for you, possibly with a provision to make your husband leave the house.

If that is not a possibility, try contacting your local Legal Services office.

If you have to get out quickly, try contacting the nearest shelter for battered women. Most of these organizations have attorneys they refer people to.

You can also send me a private email off-list with more information and I may be able to direct you to an organization for help.
