Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

I am from Texas, I had a child with someone I am not married to. When I got pregnant I was 17 he was 16..when my daughter was born I was 18 he was 17. His name is on the birth certificate, my daughter is almost 3 months old. He does not seem to have the "natural instinct of taking care of a baby. He wants me to leave her alone with him, but I am uncomfortable because I have seen him with her and he truly does not know what to do when she cries. What are my options and do I have to let him see her unsupervised?

If there are no court orders in place, then you both have equal rights to the child. That is a recipe for conflict. You can contact the Attorney General's office and they will set up a child support and custody order for you, unless you are both living together still.

The Court will not be too concerned with whether he knows how to care for a baby, so my suggestion is that you teach him. See if he will learn.

If you are not living together, please get a custody order put in place. If you have equal rights, which you do when there is no order, he can take off with the child and put you in a terrible legal situation.
