Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

widow benefits of deceased divorced spouse

I was divorced 2 months and 1 week before I was married 10 yrs. My ex-spouse is now deceased. My lawyer did not tell me about the 10 yr rule and I was encouraged to settle in mediation too soon. Anything that I can do to receive benefits?

I honestly do not know of an attorney who advises people in a divorce, based upon the possibility of untimely death. Whether or not you have options would depend upon whether your decree was signed in the last 30 days.
