Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

Apartment Lease Dispute

I am dating a guy who was in an apartment with his ex. He is the only one that had good credit and could sign for the apartment. He has moved out approx. 2 months now and she has still been residing there. She recently informed him that she is moving out in a couple days and that he will be stuck having to pay the rent. Is there any way to ensure that she will have to split the cost of having the lease broken, or convincing her to stay in the apartment and signing the lease over to her name so that he can remove his name from the lease? Basically he is wanting to sever all ties and not be stuck with a big price tag.

Re: Apartment Lease Dispute

He is probably legally liable for the entire lease. He might try to negotiate with the landlord and see if he can sublease it and try to cut his losses. It was a very bad idea for him to leave his former girlfriend in his apartment. If she doesn't pay, he remains liable whether she is there or not.
