Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

Can I sue someone who broke into my house and stole about $10000 worth of stuff? They kicked in my door and took things that I can't replace (sentimental items).

We have to pay a $1000 insurance deductible and will come out on the short end of getting all of our money back.

This is a group of criminals who have been in and out of jail for burglaries and drugs.

Yes, but it would probably be more effective if you reported them to the police. Oftentimes, the District Attorney will require criminal defendants to pay restitution.

The real question you need to ask is whether or not you would get anything out of suing them. Sure, you can sue them. But to what end? Do you really want to spend yet more money on legal fees and court costs when you will likely not recover anything? Sorry to have to give you this information. Just trying to prevent you from getting more ripped off than you already have been.
