Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

I am being sued by yellow book in texas because I worked as a employee for a hotel and signed a ad contract with them. The hotel never paid for the ad so now they are suing me, the manager and the hotel. They have a very small line in the details on the contract that states that if the corporation does not pay, I am personally liable for the amount due. The actual amount due was around 9K and they are suing for 18K with court fees etc. The lawyer for YellowBook said they served me a Subpoena in Texas in November 2010, but I have not been in Texas since 2007. I never heard about this until a few weeks ago when this showed up on my credit report. Since I never received a Subpoena and don't even live in that state am I liable to go to court? Secondly I was just a employee for 3 months when the contract was signed and after that the manager signed the next contract. How can they sue me for 1 year of missed payments by the hotel? Any help will be greatly appreciated. I have never been sued or been in any trouble so this, out of the blue, case has me baffled.
