Legal Question in Immigration Law in Texas

My name is Yasmin and I applied for my passport after I signed up to go to a missions trip to Honduras on October 4th. I received a letter from the US Department of State requesting additional information regarding the factual circumstances of my birth. I am working on gathering the necessary documentation but I will not have received everything in time to mail it from Houston TX to the office in South Carolina. My ticket has been paid for by the church sponsoring the trip and I have called the passport center to request permission to leave the US to fulfill my obligation but that was denied...my question is this: what recourses do I have for being able to make this trip? What will happened if I can't find the necessary documentation since my birth occurred such a long time ago?

If you are a U.S. citizen without a passport, you are not going to be admitted into another country. You cannot leave the country without a valid passport. You will need to resolve this issue first.
