Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Texas

We deducted the cost of repairs we made from our rent payment this month, with a letter and receipts. It was a reasonable figure, as we chose the most inexpensive materials possible. We decided to do the repairs ourselves, as my boyfriend is experienced in home construction and after notifying the landlord every week from March through May 2012 that the repairs needed to be done. We were consistently promised the contractors would be out to make the repairs, yet they would never show up. Consequently, we receive notice from the landlord that our rent deduction was unacceptable. What should our next move be? Should we open an Escrow account for our next rent payment?

The Texas Property Code does not allow you to deduct repairs (the ones you have to make, i.e., the ones your sorry worthless landlord won't make) from your rent. Sorry.
